Parents and Visitors:

There is a new process for gaining access to the Fort George G. Meade Installation. Anyone seeking to get onto the post must show either military or a Fort Meade-issued identification badge.

In order to receive a Fort Meade ID badge, all potential visitors to the Installation (including school employees, parents, volunteers, contractors, etc.) must complete a Personal Services Access Request Form. For your convenience, the form is attached to this letter and can also be found on the school web site. Additional forms are available at the Fort Meade Visitors Center or at your child’s school.

Once the red section of the form is complete, the applicant must take it to the Fort Meade Visitors Center. There, Ft. Meade officials will conduct a background screening based on the information provided. Based on the results of the screening, the applicant will either be issued a badge or instructed on how to appeal a denial.

While this change in protocol may require a major adjustment for some families, please know that all schools on Fort Meade will work with every family to make accommodations that meet the needs of every student. If you, as a parent, are denied access to the Installation, please try to list trusted people on your child’s emergency card who will be able to gain access to the post. These people will be able to quickly retrieve your child in critical situations. Again, if a specific issue arises with your child, the school will make alternate arrangements to meet with you as necessary.

All parents requiring access to the Installation should work to have clearance before school resumes on in the coming weeks. Also, please note that this new procedure is in addition to the school security procedures in place at our schools where visitors are required to show photo identification in the main office.

Thank you for all that you do for our students and our schools. We appreciate your patience through this transition. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s school.
